Windows 7 Email – Best Email for Windows 7

Outlook Express was the core windows application for handling email ever since I can remember. Some people preferred installing and using other email client software such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Eudora. The last 2 email programs are free email clients.

Since the release of Windows Vista Outlook Express was renamed to Windows Mail and when Windows 7 was released they stopped including this popular windows email software. The alternative email solution would be to use Windows Live Email.

I am used to using Outlook Express and did not like using Outlook or the other free email software for windows. So far I think of installing 64-bit version of Thunderbird as I read somewhere that Thunderbird let you import emails and settings from Outlook Express. On the other hand a friend told me he had so much difficulty with this import function that he decided on leaving his emails on Outlook Express but to install Windows Live Mail and to start using it from scratch.

I don’t like the idea of hacking Windows Mail by copying a Vista 64-bit edition Windows Mail folder over my Windows 7 64-bit edition folder.

I already have a hotmail email address and I am using the MSN chat software – I therefor decided to also check out installing the Windows Live Essentials since it inlcudes Windows Live Mail. I would especially like having any fast email app and I would prefer one that will allow me to import my outlook express emails, folders and rules.

I will update this post to reflect what I eventually find to be the best email solution for my new computer.

Thank you very much for the good information bundle about using an email adress in Windows 7. I’ve decided to use Thunderbird now.
