Earth Hour – Combined Small Efforts Can Make A Difference:

It is amazing to comprehend that although about millions of people each potentially might have thought “some small contribution I will make”, yet they did it and what is even more ashtonishing is the fact that even though the amount each person saved on their electricity bill is so small, the investment that our earth planet got from this is mind blowing!

In South Africa about 400 megawatts were saved in the earth hour 2009 according to Eskom, South African electricity provider.  According to Getaway, a leading South African tourism magazine, 50 million people contributed to earth hour 2008. Imagine the difference we can make if we can get a global awareness towards a earth week, an earth month or even better an earth year where people would be contributing daily for a year!

Ah, wonderful. I was waiting for a new blog post so I could leave a comment.

Interesting topic. We need to become much more energy efficient as a society.

The earth would benefit even more if we could release the stranglehold big oil companies have on government energy policies. Anyway, the industrial technological society we live in today requires too much energy and pollutes us and the environment too much. It is therefore not sustainable. Technology has not and may never save us in the long run.

On a slightly different note, you may read this article about Nikola Tesla and radiant energy.

I am off to read it myself.

i joined in and it felt good that so many people were trying, but…

why not just switch off the lights on the eifeel tower, sydney harbour bridge etc, etc every night? is it that important to be able to see them at night?
